I’m so excited to bring you Essential Oil Playdough Week! Each day I’ll introduce one new playdough made with a different essential oil and discuss it’s benefits!
Our family began using essential oils a year ago, and I’m fascinated by how much they have helped our family in every area of our lives from cooking to healing to play recipes! We’ve incorporated essential oils into our daily lives and I can’t imagine our life without them.
Every essential oil can be safely used aromatically and topically, while some can be used internally. For our playdough recipes, by using essential oils and playing with the dough, our children are being benefited by the aromatic properties of the oil.
Today, we’ll be introducing Lavender Essential Oil playdough!

Ingredients:
- 1 C. Flour
- 1 Tbsp. Oil (vegetable/canola)
- 1 C. Water
- 1/2 C. Salt
- 1 Tbsp. Cream of Tartar
- Food Coloring {blue/red or purple}
- Lavender Essential Oil
Steps:
1. Place all ingredients in a pot and whisk them together.
2. Add about 4 drops of blue and 2 drops of red food coloring {add more/less to your desire}
3. Heat on med/high until mixture clumps together (this happens very quickly).
4. Stir the mixture the entire time to prevent sticking. It will begin to pull away from the sides of the pot.
5. Once it clumps nicely, put on wax paper to cool.
6. AFTER your dough has cooled, add 5-6 drops of Lavender essential oil.
7. Kneed until dough is soft and aromatic. Add more drops of oil to your liking.
8. Play & Enjoy!

I just recently got some jojoba oil and decided to make a few roller bottles of jojoba and essential oils. it is so much easier to apply thieves to my spine and bottom of my feet to help protect me during the cold and flu season.

How about how much play-dough does this recipe make? Just one big ball, or does it make a few?
Erica Leggiero, M.Ed. says
Yes, one big ball. It’s just enough to fit inside a sandwich size baggie 🙂
